My husband left with the two older kids and a friend of theirs to take them to AWANA. I put the baby in bed early because she had been bawling all day long thanks to the evil known as “teething“. My two year old was watching Arthur so I went into my room to check e-mail and my FlyLady lists....
In walks the toddler telling me that Arthur is over. I ask her what she wanted to do and she says, "I wanna watch TV in your room." I tell her that there aren't any kid's shows on right now. She looks up at my TV and says, "But you have a TiVo in your room."
Stunned silence from me and suddenly I couldn't help but laugh. We talk about TiVo to everyone but who knew her little mind was grasping that TiVo somehow is different from live tv - unbelievable. I had to explain to her that the TiVo in mommy and daddy's room records things for mommy and daddy. She then says, "Not for Me?" (with a pout face) I shook my head no and she fell to the floor dramatically like her world was coming to an end. She begins whining and saying, "I want to go to bed" (kind of like - well, fine, if I can't have what I want I'll just go to bed).
I ignore her whining and tell her she can certainly go to bed early if she'd like. She suddenly changes her tune and asks “can I play on the computer?”
"Do you know how?"
"I can play the Mick Junior site" (talking about Nick Jr.).
This little tiny two year old girl has her own login on the family computer. She knows that TiVo records her favorite shows for her in the living room and sadly not in mom's room. She'll yell “pause it” if she has to go to the bathroom and doesn't want to miss something during movie night. She knows the difference between DVD and VHS (our VCR has both). She likes to pretend to play gamecube and knows she cannot touch daddy's X-box. The microwave magically “heatses” up her food.
Beginning to see that all of the “what does this button do?” questions are really registering with her.
