Last night as I was working on our 2006 calendars (and watching some TiVo'd shows) a Target commercial came on. Rather than fast-forwarding, I watched it to see if they were really going to incorporate “Christmas” as promised in a December 9th press release. I was stunned to see the phrase “Merry Christmas” on the screen at the end of the commercial. So, we're no longer boycotting. Not because AFA lifted the ban but because I saw evidence of what they promised.
There are a lot of people who believe boycotts are ridiculous. I certainly do not. Unfortunately for Target, I've already finished most of my Christmas shopping (not a dime of it went to them). I do have a few things left on my list that I've been unable to locate at other stores so I might look there - we'll see.
I still don't care for Target banning the Salvation Army ringers. Target has offered a feeble attempt at a compromise. I think at least they could heavily discount items purchased for the Salvation Army or offer free shipping. Instead, they will profit from the “campaign”. Seems a bit lacking in class to me.
