Today Erik busied himself with power tools and nails and wood glue to create a cornice box for the girls' bedroom window. While he worked in the garage, L(7) & K(a6) were playing with some of the neighbor kids. L(7) was singing “Breakfast” by the Newsboys. If you read the lyrics to this song, you will understand why he didn't “get” what the song meant when he first heard it. After a series of questions several days ago, he was up to speed on the meaning of the song. Well, Erik overhears him passing on this new found “wisdom” to a little girl across the street. “See, it's sort of a silly song but about very serious things.” He informs her. “'When the big one finds you' means, when you die. And the hell part is because you really don't want to go there. Not just because they don't give you breakfast there but because it's a really bad place.” He proceeded to tell her more in great detail of course.
L has said for about two years now that he wants to be a missionary when he grows up. I need to tell him that all believers are called to be missionaries no matter where they live and by telling his friends right here about Jesus, he's already a missionary.
Third Day is actually one of his most favorite groups but he's really been into the Newsboys lately too (our influence I'm sure lol). There are a few Christian artists Erik listens to that L says are too “out of control” for him. Wonder if he'll feel that way when the tweens and teens are here - doubtful.
