Err, I mean us.
Today is our 11th Wedding anniversary. In the UK we've hit the number of years an average marriage lasts.
I was looking at some statistics. Apparently in the US, 50% of all marriages end in divorce. Half! That's just bad wouldn't you say? In school you fail with a 50% average. I looked at how long the average marriage lasts in the US - there are differing opinions on that but the average of the numbers I found is around 7 years.
I tried to find out what the true leading causes for these divorces were. The results were quite conflicting and I'd say that probably none of those “reports” have a clue. You know what I surmised was the leading cause based on the reports I read? Selfishness. One person (or sometimes both) behaves selfishly...trust is broken and yada, yada, yada...there's a divorce.
Maybe if we spent more time focusing on “us” and less time focusing on “me”, we'd have fewer divorces in this country. Contrary to what some outsiders may think, Erik and I don't have a “perfect marriage” (there's no such thing this side of heaven by the way); However, we do work very hard at it.
So, in the spirit of celebrating the day I became a bride to my sweet groom...
“HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US!”
