God’s word is a recorded declaration
Of His wonderful, marvelous creation.
It tells how the Earth was made
And the expensive price that Jesus paid.
It tells of the Apostle Paul
And of Jericho’s great big wall.
It tells of the rich and poorly
But it is also His Story
Since it is not written in our speech
People say to them it does not reach
Some say they cannot understand it
Or that it seems to be a big secret
But it’s really not a mystery,
It’s an inspired book of History.
This is a crude little poem I wrote at the ripe old age of 15 – tee hee. I could probably write a far more eloquent piece now but the simplicity of my little poem speaks volumes to me. Even some, who see the historical importance of the Bible, completely miss the depth and breadth of the text from a spiritual/relational aspect. The truth I see spelled out line by line shows just how timeless and unchanging God’s Word is.
For I am the LORD, I change not;
Malachi 3:6a
But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
1 Peter 1:25
His Word is strong, unwavering and revealing…
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart
Hebrews 4:12
His Word is nurturing, life giving and freeing…
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Matthew 4:4
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Psalm 119:11
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John 8:32
His Word is guidance…
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Psalm 119:105
His Word is living…
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:14
His Word is inviting…
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
Revelation 3:20
His Word is saving…
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 14:6
God’s Story is outlined in the Bible…from beginning to eternal end. However, it goes far beyond history as I consider where my story fits into HIStory.
