If you're one of those people who leaves your basket in the parking lot "un-corraled" then you may not want to read this post. If however, you're someone who will corral your buggy when finished with it even if you have to hike almost all the way back to the front of the store to do so, then perhaps you and I share this pet peeve. It truly irritates me to have to drive around and around a parking lot looking for a vacant spot that doesn't have a loose basket it in. If your car has ever been side swiped by one of these, it's no doubt you make an effort not to leave them just scattered about. Are Americans just so lazy today that they can't take the extra 10 seconds out of their day to place a cart in the corral at the grocery store?
Granted, there are stores who don't provide corrals and those places are equally as irritating as the people who don't use them when offered. My son is now old enough to return those for me but when he was younger I'd do the double trip thing so I wouldn't be leaving a cart in the parking lot for someone else to deal with. Michael's for example, doesn't have cart corrals. I'd push it out to the van, unload everything but the kids and then push it back to the store, unload the kids and then carry or walk them back to the van. It's a pain for sure but I don't feel it's someone else's responsibility to put away something I borrowed.
At most grocery stores though, there are corrals within a few feet of your car and yet people leave them just sitting there. I've even seen people who were parked right next to the coral leave the buggy in the parking spot beside the corral. Come on people! Let's have a little courtesy for our neighbors and fellow citizens. Corral Your Buggy Please!
