66 Books in 66 Days

When I first posted my goals for 2007 I wanted to read through half the Bible this year.  Why half?  Well, because any other time I've attempted to read through the entire thing in one year I've fallen way behind early on and would give up.  Well, Edwin, from Bible Reading for Busy People, questioned me on this in the comments of my goal post.  He wanted to know if I planned to read the second half after I finished the first lol.  Well, that was a valid question and of course the answer was “yes“, but it really made me re-think my goals.  Obviously, I ended up changing my goal.

I did not plan to finish in less than three months.  Originally I was only reading ahead of schedule so that if I missed a day or two here and there I wouldn't fall behind.  Then, I decided that I couldn't work on my other goals each day until I had completed my reading for that day.  Of course, once I would start reading it was difficult to make myself stop.  Before I knew it I was several months ahead of schedule so I figured I might as well go ahead and finish - no need to draw it out until December.  I can now say I have read the Bible, cover to cover in under one year....actually, I guess I can say I've read it in under three months.  I'm still pretty surprised and am thankful that the Lord kept impressing it upon my heart to continue.

I haven't decided if I'll make this an annual thing or not but I have a few months to make up my mind.  I do like to have a study going on a specific topic at all times so I plan to start that up again now that I'm done reading through.  I will say that this experience was very enlightening and I was definitely “schooled” on somethings I thought I already knew.  I did have some difficulty staying interested during parts of the old testament but with the Lord's help I pressed on.

If you haven't made this a goal for yourself this year, it isn't too late to start.  If you have made it a personal goal, stay strong and don't let Satan distract you.  I pray that you walk away from your experience with a better understanding and a stronger faith in our God.
